The Seeds of Philanthropy Were Sown Early

Dr. Reddy and his Foundations assist individuals and organizations in countless ways, whether providing generous donations for educational facilities and scholarships for aspiring healthcare professionals or assisting those unable to afford medical care.

Dr. Reddy and his Foundations assist individuals and organizations in countless ways, whether providing generous donations for educational facilities and scholarships for aspiring healthcare professionals or assisting those unable to afford medical care.
Dr. Reddy was born into a family of proud village leaders in rural India, where he learned the values and guiding principles that led to his remarkable accomplishments and generosity. The focus of Dr. Reddy’s charitable work has always been to give back to the communities and provide others with the same kinds of opportunities he had. He has gifted hundreds of millions of dollars to causes related to health care and education. In 1989, he established the Desert Valley Charitable Foundation, which was later renamed the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation, with an initial gift of $1 million and a goal of providing and supporting healthcare education that will improve the quality of life in Southern California and High Desert communities.
The Victor Valley College Foundation honored Dr. Reddy for the largest private donation in the history of the college by naming its allied Health programs “The Dr. Prem Reddy School of Allied Health and Nursing.” The donation directly addresses the nursing shortage while assisting the next generation of healthcare professionals with scholarships and grants. Dr. Reddy also donated a Public Health Library to the High Desert Community.
In honor of his many contributions to education in the health care field, The Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA named its largest lecture hall the “Dr. Prem Reddy Lecture Hall.” In the early years of the foundation.
Dr. Reddy donated $1 million to the Circle of Care Foundation at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, CA, which helps support burn survivors, seniors, and family caregivers. The American College of Cardiology in Bethesda, Maryland designated Dr. Reddy a member of The Order of William Harvey, in recognition of and appreciation for outstanding support of the college’s endowment programs. The foundation also raised money for a 9/11 Memorial Tribute Monument at Victor Valley College.
Dr. Reddy founded the Prime Healthcare Foundation in 2006, a 501(c)3 public charity that owns and operates non-profit acute care hospitals that serve the needs of communities across the United States, providing millions of dollars in charity care and community benefit.
Beyond our borders, Dr. Reddy bestowed funds to several charities in India which he feels will have a lasting impact. For these honorable efforts, he received the National Citizen’s Award from H. D. Deve Gowda, previous Prime Minister of India. Additionally, Dr. Reddy has supported Samaritan’s Purse World Medical Mission to provide third world countries with medical equipment. This commitment affects communities around the globe.
In early 2014, Cal State University unveiled the Dr. Prem Reddy Nursing Laboratory, made possible by a $500,000 gift that Dr. Reddy made to the university to support nursing education. The facility includes 30 computer stations, a 10-bed lab and advanced simulation technology and mannequins.
Dr. Reddy continues to his philanthropic efforts to this day, most recently celebrating with the inaugural graduating class of MD students at the California University of Science and Medicine, one of our nation’s newest medical schools founded by Dr. Reddy through a $60 million donation.
